Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) has announced that its Terminal Modernization Program (TMP) has passed the halfway point in its construction plan.
Consequently, the project remains on track for completion in 2025.
Airlines operating at PIT have unanimously approved a revised 1.57 billion USD budget for this project, which will be primarily funded through long-term bonds.
The TMP has also been awarded 23.5 million USD in federal grants under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
Christina Cassotis, CEO of the Allegheny County Airport Authority (ACAA), which operates PIT said:We are building the airport that Pittsburgh deserves and which will serve our families, friends and neighbours for generations to come.
Thanks to the partnership we have built with the airlines, air service at PIT has continued to grow, which is a big boost to the Pittsburgh region. We are grateful for the airlines’ unwavering faith in our vision for the new Pittsburgh International Airport.
To reach the halfway point in this programme, workers have recently poured concrete for the roadway bridge that will connect traffic to the landside terminal, completed the high roof steel and commenced installation of the bridge that will connect the new terminal to the existing airside terminal.
Once complete, the programme will deliver a new landside terminal, parking garage and roadway system.
This project aims to reduce passenger wait and walk times, shorten baggage delivery times, increase the efficiency of the international arrivals process, reduce operations and maintenance costs and provide 6,000 additional public parking spaces.
Construction on the TMP began in October 2021.
