American Airlines has opened its redevelopment of Terminal 8 at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).
The refurbished terminal introduces a redesigned passenger environment from check-in through to departure gates. The changes are intended to improve passenger flow and provide additional facilities for travellers using the airport.
More than 60 new outlets for food, retail and duty-free shopping have been added. Around 20 of these are local businesses, reflecting links to New York City and the surrounding borough of Queens.
At the centre of the redevelopment is a new food hall known as The Boroughs, which brings together a mix of local and international vendors. Retail areas have also been expanded, with a mix of luxury and general consumer brands.
The refurbishment also includes revised check-in facilities, expanded lounge areas, updated baggage systems and upgraded seating at departure gates.
American’s Vice President of Corporate Real Estate Amanda Zhang said:Everything we do at Terminal 8 is designed around one goal: delivering a better experience for our customers. This opening represents a major step forward in how we serve customers traveling through JFK — bringing together modern design, improved amenities and thoughtful details that make travel feel easier and more enjoyable.
Terminal 8 remains the primary base for American Airlines’ international operations at JFK. The airline operates more than 240 daily flights from New York, connecting the city with over 90 destinations.
The redevelopment has also allowed several partner airlines, including members of the oneworld alliance, to operate from the same terminal.
