XenomatiX offers 6D road scanning, a high-precision method
for the inspection, measurement and localisation of the pavement conditions. It
combines true solid-state lidar,  imaging
cameras and RTK GNSS to capture the geometry, geolocation and surface
characteristics. It support automated and repeatable pavement inspections, both
day and night, with minimal disruption.

The solution covers the complete inspection workflow, from
data acquisition through to processing and reporting. XenomatiX’ 6D Road Scanning
system is a certified, portable system that can be installed very easily and
quickly on any car. A complete runway can typically be captured in
approximately two hours at an average speed of 90km/h – day or night – depending
on the inspection conditions and operational requirements. The collected data
is subsequently processed to extract pavement measurements and indices, like
the PCI (Pavement Condition Index), IRI and Rutting.

Pavement characteristics can be associated with their
precise location on the runway. We support applications like crack and pothole
detection, surface anomaly and surface distress assessment, drainage analysis,
light protrusion detection, wet skid resistance analysis, and macrotexture
measurements. Data processing happens overnight and a report is generated with
recommendations on the maintenance work for the operating team.

Case Study

A runway inspection was carried out at a major UK airport
in cooperation with a global airport maintenance provider. The objective was to
capture detailed pavement condition data within a limited operational window
while minimising disruption to airport traffic.

Because runway access is highly constrained during normal
operations, the inspection had to be completed efficiently and within the
available window. The requirement was to collect high-precision pavement data
and provide the processed results in a format that could be used directly for
maintenance planning.

The inspection was performed at night using the 6D Road
Scanning  XenoTrack system equipped with
additional runway illumination. The lighting system provided consistent
illumination of the pavement surface during low-light conditions, enabling
simultaneous capture of LiDAR and imaging data.

The runway was scanned with minimal impact on normal airport
operations. The collected data included the three-dimensional pavement surface,
geolocation and visual information required for subsequent pavement condition
analysis.

Following the inspection, the captured data was processed
and made available the following day. The results were delivered in both PDF
and Excel formats, providing the airport maintenance team with the measured
pavement information and the location of identified areas requiring attention.
