VINCI Airports and ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal are launching Vision-Box’s biometric solution across airports in Portugal

This technology is now live at Lisbon and Porto airports and will be launched in Faro, Madeira and Ponta Delgada later in the year.

The first tests are being carried out with passengers from TAP Air Portugal on departures from Lisbon and Porto. In the second phase of the project, additional airlines will be added.

This process simplifies the journey for the passenger who gains free time through a paperless and contactless journey

Eligible passengers travelling on the test flights can participate by registering in advance on the “Biometric Experience by VINCI Airports” app or at the airport.

Once their documents and a selfie have been submitted, the passenger can enjoy a smoother and faster contactless boarding experience using biometric data, rather than having to produce their documents at the gate.

Thierry Ligonnière, CEO of ANA Aeroportos said:

We are very excited about this launch, which represents the most advanced investment in innovation at airports with tangible results for the traveller experience. Facial recognition technology will enable a faster, simpler journey where travellers gain comfort and time, ensuring complete security and confidentiality of their data and the process. We are excited about this launch and the expansion of biometrics to more airlines and airports, making the boarding process even more efficient.

This ‘Biometric Experience’ project is supported by the European Union through the NextGenerationEU programme. It aims to leverage new technologies to improve the quality of service at Lisbon, Porto, Faro, Madeira and Ponta Delgada airports.
