Turner & Townsend Appointed for DEN Expansion Project

Turner & Townsend has been selected as the project controls services provider for Denver International Airport’s (DEN) major expansion project, which aims to expand the airport’s capacity by over 40 percent.

As the aviation industry recovers from the pandemic, DEN is preparing to accommodate 100 million annual passengers through ongoing expansion and modernisation of their terminal capacity.

Turner & Townsend will support this goal for Vision 100 through set-up, delivery and close out of key projects, including the support for delivering a Center of Excellence and Equity in Aviation.

DEN Expansion Project
DEN is the second largest airport in the world by size and has the longest runway in the United States. In 2021, DEN served 58.8 million passengers, making it the third busiest airport in the world
Christopher McAtasney, Director of Infrastructure at Turner & Townsend, said:

“We are delighted to join DEN on their journey in creating their Centre of Excellence and Equity in Aviation for capital project delivery. In addition, we are particularly happy to be furthering our mission to help grow and invest in MWBE businesses through partnerships that bolster their experience and lead to more opportunities in infrastructure development. We look forward to contributing towards building a positive legacy for the aviation industry, by utilising and sharing our global expertise in shaping greener, more inclusive and more productive programmes.”

Backed by a multi-billion-dollar capital investment plan, DEN’s expansion project focuses on improving operations and passenger flow, as well as maintaining enhanced airport security.

Furthermore, the planned Center of Excellence and Equity will help DEN develop a pipeline of aviation talent. The centre will be constructed on Level 4 of the Westin Denver International Airport and will provide opportunities for underrepresented students and young people who are interested in careers in aviation.

Throughout the project, Turner & Townsend will also work with local members of the minority and women-owned business enterprise (MWBE) community in Denver, as part of DEN’s commitment to bringing new opportunities and development to historically underserved businesses.
