VINCI Airports is investing 100 million GBP in Belfast International Airport (BFS) to improve its operational efficiency, passenger experience and environmental performance.

The first phase of this programme will construct a new 25 million GBP security building adjacent to the current terminal building. This facility will feature CT scanners to eliminate the need for passengers to remove liquids or electronics from their baggage.

The new building will be operational by Summer 2024 in line with the UK government’s mandate to introduce this technology.

VINCI Airports’ investment plan will also update existing facilities and improve the airport’s airside departure lounge by adding extra departure gates and seating areas.

In addition, new retail and dining options will be established and the Border Force area will be extended.

These investments aim to improve operational efficiency and quality of service while passenger numbers at Belfast International Airport continue to rise.

To enhance sustainability, VINCI Airports has also announced the construction of a 26 MWp new solar farm on the airport site which will generate 22.4 GWh of electricity and save 12,500 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.

Nicolas Notebaert, CEO of VINCI Concessions & President of VINCI Airports said:

VINCI Airports’ investment will support Belfast International Airport’s positive dynamic by strongly improving the passenger experience. The airport plays a pivotal role for aviation, tourism and the wider local economy. As a long-term partner, VINCI Airports is committed to sustainably develop the airport and increase its environmental performance.
