Heathrow Timeslot Trial Looks to Reduce Security Wait Times

London Heathrow Airport (LHR) has launched a 6-month trial allowing passengers to pre-book a slot to pass through security.

The Heathrow Timeslot trial will initially be available to passengers travelling from Terminal 3 with American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Emirates and Virgin Atlantic. It will then be expanded to more airlines throughout the 6-month period.

Heathrow Timeslot is a free service that aims to reduce queue times for all passengers, while also allowing participating passengers to plan their airport experience with more predictability.

Heathrow is one of the first airports in the UK to offer this system, which is already active in other airports worldwide, such as Berlin Brandenburg Airport and Seattle-Tacoma International.

Findings from the trial will inform any future roll-out or expansion of the service across Heathrow Airport.

Mark Powell, Operational Planning Director at Heathrow said:

“Everyone is familiar with airport security, but at Heathrow we’re constantly thinking of innovative ways to boost the safety and streamline the experience for our passengers. This new trial will give passengers that extra added bit of certainty and reassurance ahead of their journey and we think it will be particularly popular for those with families or nervous travellers who may want a bit more confidence in their journeys.

“We look forward to seeing the data come in to give us some learnings on how we can roll this out more widely across Heathrow.”
