Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport in Serbia has recently inaugurated a new baggage handling system, developed and commissioned by Alstef Group.
This project, initiated by Vinci in December 2021, was executed in multiple phases, primarily focusing on enhancing the new Terminal 2’s baggage handling capabilities, while seamlessly connecting it with the existing Terminal 1 system.
A standout feature of this project is the integration of the BAGXONE Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV). This technology ensures smooth connectivity between the screening reconciliation zone and the departure carousels. Additionally, in rare cases, the AGV can efficiently transport baggage from the reconciliation zone to the baggage destruction zone.
David Dugue, Head of Tender Department – Airport Systems at Alstef Group said:Designing fixed conveyor routes within the confined space for low-traffic transfers to and from the screening reconciliation zone posed significant challenges. The BAGXONE AGV proved to be the optimal solution.
Project Phases
Phase 1 (Southern Terminal 2): Initiated in June 2022, this phase involved installing 28 check-in conveyors and counters, outbound screening and sortation systems, make-up carousels, out-of-gauge lines, and roller tables.
Phase 2 (Northern Terminal 2): This phase saw the addition of 33 check-in conveyors and counters, an outbound screening system, carousel-based sortation systems, and a make-up carousel.
Phase 3: Focused on establishing a two-way connection between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, integrating essential systems and installing 50 conveyors.
Final Departures Phase: This phase involved setting up a dedicated transfer line with 13 conveyors designed for efficient baggage transfer.
The entire baggage handling system is managed through Alstef Group’s proprietary software suite, BAGWARE, which provides Sortation Allocation Control (SAC) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA).
