Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) is investing over 100 million GBP in a terminal regeneration project that aims to enhance the passenger experience and pave the way for future growth.
As part of this project, a 9,500 square-metre three-storey extension will be added to LBA’s existing terminal. Meanwhile, its current building will undergo significant refurbishment work and its facilities will be upgraded.
Once complete, passengers at LBA will benefit from additional aircraft stands, more seating, faster security, new dining and retail options, and a larger baggage reclaim area and immigration hall. In addition, the project will improve accessibility for passengers with restricted mobility.
The regeneration will also advance LBA’s mission to further decarbonise its operations through the installation of new energy-efficient heating, lighting, and machinery such as new baggage belts.
Vincent Hodder, Chief Executive of Leeds Bradford Airport, said:This announcement marks the beginning of a new era for Leeds Bradford Airport. This investment will give us the infrastructure needed to deliver an outstanding customer experience, support the growth of our airline partners, enhance connectivity for business, investment and trade and provide the airport that Leeds, Bradford and Yorkshire have been waiting for. LBA is a key asset for our region and our community, our investment enhances and supports broader investments underway in Leeds and Bradford creating new jobs, new opportunities and shared benefits for our community.
This work is set to commence in autumn 2023 for completion in 2026.
Phase 1 of the project, which includes the construction of the terminal extension, will be delivered by Farrans Construction.
