Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD) has introduced a new security screening system as part of an operational upgrade led by VINCI Airports.
The system forms part of the company’s NextGen Security approach, which has been implemented in a redesigned security area at the airport. The updated lanes incorporate new technology designed to streamline the movement of passengers through security checkpoints, thus improving passenger processing and terminal efficiency.

The redesigned layout includes dedicated preparation areas intended to improve passenger flow and reduce congestion. The system is also designed to increase processing capacity by accelerating tray handling and screening procedures.
Furthermore, the system benefits from increased automation and redesigned workspaces for security staff, with the aim of reducing manual handling and improving operational conditions. Training programmes for staff have also been introduced alongside the new equipment.
The upgraded infrastructure is expected to reduce waiting times, with processing times at security checkpoints reported to fall to under one minute in some cases.
The project was developed with input from teams across the wider airport network, including colleagues from Edinburgh Airport and London Gatwick Airport. This collaboration supported the development of standardised security processes across VINCI’s international portfolio.
VINCI Airports stated that the approach is intended to be scalable across its network in Europe, Japan and Latin America.
