The US Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded more than 76.2 million USD in Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 to help 85 airports in 28 states prepare for the approaching winter weather.

This funding will support the purchase of snowplows, de-icing equipment and new or upgraded buildings to store this equipment.

We can’t let winter weather stop aircraft from safely landing and taking off. This funding will help keep airports operating this winter and get passengers and cargo to their work, families and vacations safely.

Approximately 46.2 million USD will be used to purchase snow removal equipment. For example:

  • Rickenbacker International in Columbus, Ohio will receive 3,667,964 USD
  • Ted Stevens International Airport in Anchorage, Alaska has been granted 3,152,552 USD
  • Ford Airport in Iron Mountain, Michigan will benefit from 607,500 USD
  • Boeing Field/King County International Airport in Seattle, Washington will gain 2,350,167 USD

In addition, 13.6 million USD will support the development of de-icing facilities, including:

  • 9,776,486 USD for Atlantic City International Airport in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey to construct a de-icing containment facility
  • 3,301,240 USD for Great Falls International Airport in Great Falls, Montana to construct a de-icing pad
  • 277,777 USD for Williston Basin International Airport in Williston, North Dakota to construct a de-icing pad

Finally, 16.4 million USD will construct and renovate buildings that house and maintain snow removal equipment. These grants include:

  • 2,694,567 USD to Bellingham International Airport in Bellingham, Washington
  • 2,189,414 USD to Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport in Brainerd, Minnesota
